Patrik Eriksson
Composer and Violist

Biography

Patrik Eriksson was eight years old when he got hooked on the violin and at thirteen, he decided to become a professional musician. After the music major at high school, Eriksson spent two years of study at a music conservatory. The next five years he studied at the Academy of Music in Ingesund, training both as a violinist and viola player and as a teacher of the instruments. The foundation for conducting was also laid here. Eriksson has extensive experience as a conductor of symphonic music where his mentor and great source of inspiration is Christopher Warren-Green.

Eriksson's great passion in life has always been music. He has solid experience as a string musician, both as a freelance violist in orchestras and as being a member of the Weber String Quartet, which is one of Sweden's most established string quartets. For several years, the group has played chamber music full-time with a lot of touring within Sweden's borders but also abroad.

As Quartet in Residence at Länsmuseet Västernorrland (2005–2010), the Weber String Quartet integrated music into art exhibitions and thus invited guests to combined art and music performances.

That experience paved the way for later collaborations between Eriksson and the artist-lyricist Josefine Lindh, and they further developed that concept. The two of them have had several collaborations where the completeness of combining music, art and poetry together simultaneously has been the focus. Prominent examples among these are "Journey in My Red Room" and "Treklang".

In recent years, Eriksson has adopted a new path as a composer where the genres span classical and cinematic music. Partly he creates traditionally with sheet music for smaller ensembles and larger orchestras, partly he composes pieces in his studio for publishing on music services such as Spotify and Apple Music.

In his creation, Eriksson puts the expression in focus, which also determines the crew each piece needs. Since 2021 several of his musical works have been performed. His String Quartet op. 2 was a hit with the audience during the Weber String Quartet's Norrland tour in autumn 2023 (Sweden):

"But it is only in the present that the ego has been freed. In Patrik Eriksson's string quartet, pure existence and individual reflection come to full expression."
(Newspaper Ångermanland, 26 October 2023)

"...the work is written idiomatically, that is to say that the work is adapted to the instruments, which thus get a natural sound expression."
(Örnsköldsvik's Allehanda, 31 October 2023)

Here the Weber Duo performs Eriksson's "Reflections" 2024 (the second movement from "Duo for two violins").

The focus going forward is to continue with composition for both streaming services and for live performances as well as look for exciting collaborative opportunities with actors in the industry as well as completely other fields, such as film and video games. The important thing for Patrik Eriksson is to reach out with his music and touch people’s hearts with it!
